Private Martial Arts Classes – Wing Chun?

I studied a few martial arts before finding Wing Chun Kung Fu in the 1990’s. My intention was to to do lots of styles to get the most experience. However when I found Wing Chun I realised that it was a martial art with very deep routes.

Wing Chun is very simple. It is a concept based martial art based on two main principles: conservation or energy and minimum movement. If there’s a faster and shorter way of doing something, that’s what Wing Chun uses.

Because of this Wing Chun is a style, I feel, you can learn very quickly within a short period of time. Not many people want to spend a lifetime studying a martial art for a fight they might never have!

Wing Chun uses direct counter-attacks with simultaneous counter movements. It’s a very quick style which can have devastating effects.

In terms of self defence I feel Wing Chun is probably one of the best styles you can learn because it gives you instinctive fighting principles within an enjoyable “gameplay” scenario. Rather than learn a bunch of fancy techniques you’ll never remember, Wing Chun gives you direct attacks and the know-how to implement them through it’s Chi Sau (sticky hands) drills.

You can learn quickly because Chi Sau is based on intuitive movements through continuous hand to hand contact, rather than sparring.
